i'm back!! broadband successes and failures! read on..

im currently connected to a 1mb broadband service! yay!

brad, i sought your advice and purchased a router with an additional two network cables.

before i proceed, i wanna make sure i know what im doing.

Do i have to use the broadband installer on the OTHER comp first? or at all? and the router software....what comp does this go on? or both? etc etc.

a step by step list would be much aprpeciated.

Run your Router Setup on the Computer you're currently hooked to the broadband on. Follow their instructions. Once installed, shutdown all three and connect your modem to the appropriate port on the Router and connect your Computer's Ethernet card to one of the Router's ports. Boot the Modem, then the Router, then your Computer. (Wait for each one to completely boot before startiing the next one.)
Now see if that Computer connects to the Internet properly and post back.

okay, i set up everything, i managed to get connected, entered the router setup pages...thought everything was fine.

then tried to open internet explorer and got an error message saying something about i am denied access, or access control? so i unplugged the network purely to get back on here and post

i am truly frustrated beyond belief

what did i do wrong

Don't be frustrated. We'll get it.
Did you follow my instructions exactly?
It sounds like the Router didn't detect the Modem.
Unplug the Modem and Router. Hook up the cables as described above.
Plug the Modem back in. Wait until the broadband light is not blinking. Now plug in the Router. Wait until the lights quit flashing. Sometimes this takes 1-2 min. Now start Internet Explorer. Try several times.

I know how hard this is for you. It isn't easy from this end either. So many variables. The fix for this isn't that hard. Hang in there.

Also, go to Network Connections / Right Click "Local area connections" and select "Properties" / Highlight "TCP/IP" and select "Properties". Is "Obtain an IP address automatically" checked?

yes i tried your suggestions, the exact same problems occured.

and yep, automatically get i.p address is selected.

i think im not installing it right, but i dont see how

Do this: Look in your Routers Manual and see what it's IP is. It should be something like 192.168.0.2
Now hook up the Router and Modem exactly as described above. Open IE and type that IP address into the "Address Bar" and click enter. Do you access the router?

the ip is http://192.168.2.1/ and yes when its all connected, i can access the router set up programmes and utilities!

where do you mean? if you mean in the router setup pages then no, it doesnt. but when the settings are complete it does connect yes.

From your PM's.. Take a break. This will be therein the morning....So will we. Go into your Router. Go to Internet/WAN / Select the type. PPPOE is standard ....check your ISP documentation for yours / Now enter your Username and Password that your ISP provided.

Did you select Dynamic and then look to see if your Username and Password were entered?
