Hey, my friend tash has a usb mem stick, and it wont let her delete anything from it.
I've tried everything i could think of, but when you try and delete it says restricted access. I dont know why, i went through all the options and couldnt find anything.
Any one have any ideas how to make it work properly again?
I tried to format the stick, but it says the same thing.
Thanks

venney,

First make sure the files are not read only, right click on a file and select properties.
On the general tab make sure read only is unchecked.

You may have to take ownership of the files to delete them.
If you are on a windows xp home system this has to be done in safe mode.

To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:
1. Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.

The administrator or the Administrators group now owns the file. To change the permissions on the files and folders under this folder, go to step 5.
5. Click Add.
6. In the Enter the object names to select (examples) list, type the user or group account that you want to give access to the file. For example, type Administrator.
7. Click OK.
8. In the Group or user names list, click the account that you want, and then select the check boxes of the permissions that you want to assign that user.
9. When you are finished assigning permissions, click OK.

Hey gecko, the read only option was the first thing i thought of.
Ill have to see if she'll let me do this on her pc, and hopefully she will and it'll be sorted.
If she gets another memory stick, will the same problem happen again?

Thanks
Ven

Venny I have one like that. If you examine the pen drive, you'll see a tiny little white toggle switch on the side. Slide it one way and it's read only. I had mine in my pocket with my car keys and I accidently enabled it.
