Hey guys, i just built my new PC and ive had quite a few hiccups, but solved most of them.
This problem however is quite weird. I cant install winamp, bcoz this NSIS error comes up and says the file is corrupted or incomplete.
With Java, the error is 1335 cab error.
With MSN, the error is a extractin failed, cause by low memory or corrupted cab file.
Im sure that there a more programs out there that wont be able to be instlled on this PC bcoz of this problem.
Could you please help me fix it.
i have a feelings its got to do something with the windows cab installter thinghy.....

First lets make sure you have the permissions set right:
1.Log on to your computer as an administrator.
2.Click Start, and then click Run.
3.In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
4.At the command prompt, type msiexec.exe /unregister, and then press ENTER.
5.Type msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER.
6.Verify that the SYSTEM account has full control access permissions to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive in the Windows registry. In some cases, you may also have to add Administrator accounts. To do so:
a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
b. Click the following registry hive:HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
c. On the Edit menu, click Permissions.
d. If SYSTEM is not listed in the Group or user names list, click Add, make sure that the local computer name appears in the From this location box, type system in the Enter the object names to select box, click Check Names, and then click OK.
e. Click SYSTEM in the Group or user names list, and then select the Full Control check box under Allow in the Permissions for SYSTEM box.
f. Click Apply, click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.
If that does not repair the problem then try setting the max memory for install:
1.Click Start, and then click Run.
2.In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
3.On the BOOT.INI tab, click Advanced Options.
4.In the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box, select the /MAXMEM= check box, and then change the setting to 256 (or lower if your computer has less RAM).
5.Click OK to close the BOOT.INI Advanced Options dialog box.
6.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Apply.
7.Click OK to close the System Configuration Utility dialog box.
8.Click Restart to the following message:
You must restart your computer for some of the changes made by System Configuration to take effect.
9.After you restart your computer, install the programs.
10.After you install your programs, follow steps 1 through 8 to clear the /MAXMEM= check box.

Ok, first method didnt work.
As for the secong method, i have 2GB of RAM, so what should i set the max to?
And the 2nd method, the last 2 steps, would that mean that i have to do this method everytime i want to install something?

I would try the 256 setting first.
And yes you would have to do this each time you want to install something and it fails to install.
A couple of questions:
Are you installing from a CD or the hdd?
Do you have all the updates for windows XP installed?

righto, this is weird, but i turned of Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition and now it worked. Installing is okay.
So it seemed the anti virus was the culprit....
Now that leaves me to this, which anti virus will do the job without the 1335 error?

Do me a favor and check the version of this file:
C:\Windows\System 32\Msi.dll
Right-click Msi.dll, and then click Properties > Click the Version tab.
It should be either 3.1.4000.1823 or 3.1.4000.2435
If it’s 3.1.4000.1823 then the windows installer upgrade failed and that could be the problem.

There should be a “setting” in norton for permissions on new applications.
It is set to automatically always deny you need to set it to Ask each time.
I’m sorry but I’m running norton 2003 here at home I have 2005 at the shop but I don’t remember exactly where it is located.
