Slving a couple of glitches in windows networking

OK, couple of questions about accessing network shares etc in a windows (netbios over tcp/ip) network. I have some machines where the 'entire network' option under 'my network places' in windows explorer only comes up after pressing F5. On other machines it is there as soon as you click on 'my network places.' While not exactly an earth shattering problem, it is annoying and is totally reproducible (ie any one machine is always the same - either you have to press F5 or you don't). Any ideas why 2 machines might differ?

Secondly, when troubleshooting permissions it is useful to be able to log onto a share as different users. However once I've logged onto a share as one user, windows remembers that user/pass (even if the 'remember this pass' box is unchecked. The only way to log on as a different user seems to be to log off windows & back on again. Surely there's an easier way?
