This is a major n elaborate problem im about to explain, i hope somebody out there can help me.

I have a Dell Presicion 360 desktop designed for Windows XP (not Linux because a number of these types are) with an Intel Pentium 4. This problem occured about 2-3 weeks ago. I was so caught up in trying to make space on my C drive (uninstalling all programs that hadn't been used in months to be exact) that I completely, accidentally uninstalled my entire sound drive for the PC  CRAAAAP! I couldn't remember exactly what the driver was called, but I thought it was called SoundMAX. So naturally I decided to download and installing it until I couldn't find one for Windows XP. Then I found a driver that was used in some sort of way with SoundMAX so I tried installing it (Realtek AC'97 is what it was). I got through main installation, but while I'm installing the hardware itself MY COMP REBOOTS ! I'm almost certain this is the driver I need to get sound back, but I can't get past this stupid problem. I'm currently in the process of finding SoundMAX drivers for Windows XP, but if ANYBODY knows if there is another sound driver I need PLEASE tell me. I'm extremely desperate (and my cousin told me that my last resort is reformatting, but I REALLY despise that idea) so any type of info or advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried ?
Because acording to them you have either
1. Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio
2. Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 (D)

Try the Dell site for the drivers that Gecko suggested, it should be an exact match.

I updated my Realtec AC97 drivers with a Microsoft update two months ago, and the update made my sound card inoperatible.

It was rather irratating. I wasn't sure what had happened at first,so I reinstalled the original drivers and it worked good. Then went to the MS site and downloaded the drivers again  --->no sound after I did the install. XP has a nice little roll back the drivers feature that cured it

Be careful of the MS driver downloads
