Distorted sound - almost like karaoke filter?

Postby lostboy666 » Tue May 31, 2005 10:14 am

A couple of days ago i noticed my sound was distorted, almost as if it had a karaoke filter, all formats and players that i tried had similar problems, also the volume level had dropped dramatically, on windows media player atleast, winamp the volume level was the same ( didnt have to turn it 100% to hear ) but was very distorted, before this all sound was perfect and clear

ok theres some stuff.... there were no hardware changes around the time that it started happening, there were no software changes that i can think of either

originally i used onboard sound (VIA CHIP) no probs, but once this started happening and i couldnt fix it i decided to use a Sound blaster live card i had lying around, but it made zero difference...

ive tried:

diff sound card (make and model)
newer drivers
diff speakers/headphones
uninstalling everything unnecessary
system restore to 1 week ago, also tried 2 weeks ago
disabled everything in bios that wasnt totally necessary

im stumped

almost about to reinstall fresh windows, but i'm unsure it it would make much difference....

also apologies, i didnt know which forum to post it in lol it could be either :P

Thanks ... if anyones had this problem before and knows a solution it would be great

First of all HijackThis should be in it’s own folder not a temp folder
the reason is that HijackThis makes backup files for all the changes it makes
if HijackThis is in a temp folder then it will be deleted during cleanup.
I suggest the you put it in the root like this:
C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe

Next do you know what these three entries are:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 65.42.90.170:5925
O16 - DPF: {0F9B4CA4-A30F-480A-841D-69B45C50A8F8} (SekureL0gin.SekureKontrol) - http://secure2.comned.com/signuptemplat ... kurity.cab
O23 - Service: Cepstral License Server - Cepstral, LLC - F:\Program Files\cepstral\lib\LicenseServer.exe

Once you have moved HijackThis and answered about the above entries please post a new log:
