Computer boots to black screen after using system restore.

Postby Maddy » Sun Feb 27, 2005 9:16 pm

Hi

I was doing a system restore earlier today on my PC. During or after system restore, the computer restarted to a blank screen. This happens when I try to boot to Safe mode/Safe mode with command prompt, or networking. I can no longer get to my desktop and I have tried everything. Last know good configuration, and normal system startup also doesn't work. Please help

thanks in advance

Do you see the BIOS bootup screen?
And what do you mean by system restore, windows restore or restore disk?

I was using system restore to rollback to a previous month. After the computer restarted it just brought me to a black screen with a functional cursor.

I can get to the bios screen, and after POST it goes lets me choose the following;

Safe mode
Safe mode with command prompt
Safe mode with networking

Last known good configuration

Start windows normally.

All of these bring me to the same black screen with a functioning cursor.

I do not want to reformat, but I heard that using a windows xp disk at startup can be used to restore the changes from the last system restore.
