this doesnt really seem like a power supply issue to me, i almost suspect a virus instead. You may be able to do a repair install of XP to get back up. The motherboard may be coming to a slow and painful death but i would try a repair before i started looking at new hardware.

i have virus protection running, and have yet to have a problem. i can't even run recovery or reinstall because the hardware has started to drop off. it doesn't even see the floppy or cd rom drives anymore.
i actually ran a virus scan about two - maybe three - days before this happened and some clean up utilities, yielded nothing.

Hmmm... Can you tell us what exactly you deleted? That may help us determine what is actually going on...

When you boot up, do you hear any beep codes? 1 beep at start up means all the hardware looks good, but multiple beeps mean something is wrong...

We need more info dude...

i deleted normal programs (not even in program files), and some temp stuff. i even did a system restore, and can see all of that back on the hard drive in safe mode. nothing out of windows or program files deleted.
as far as the posting, i only hear one beep at startup. starts booting into windows and freezes at progress bar, safe mode takes a moment - but it boots in completely.

When items start to wink off and the system is unstable, I would suspect a temperature problem. Check your cpu fan--open the case and see if its spinning. Also check to see that the fan in the powersupply is spining. A real quiet power supply is a sneaky item.

fans are running just fine, how would i even know the motherboard is going bad? or the power supply is shot? i've never had a hardware problem this bad.
