win2k "Access denied"

I have three networked machines running using TCP/IP
1) win98SE 2) WinXP pro 3) WIn2kpro.

All machines are visible on 'My Network Places'. I can access the files in both directions on the WIn98 and winXp comps but when I try to access files on the win2k comp from either of the other two I get "Access denied" msg. I can even see the shared printer attached to the Win2Kpro m/c but if I try to access it, it does not allow me access. although sometimes it asks for a logon password but no matter what I enter it does not recognise it.
If I put the printer on the Winxp machine the win2k comp sees it without a problem. What am I doing wrong?

Are all three PC's on the same Workgroup and using the same user account and password? If not then you may need to add the accounts for the other two PC's into the Windows 2000 PC.

Also, make sure that you've given permissions to the user/group that your sharing the folder with. Right Click the folder your sharing on the Win2k machine -Click Properties - go to the Share tab and Select the button named Permissions. Assign permissions here.

If your using NTFS on the Win2k machine, you'll also need to grant security rights. RIght click the shared folder from the Win2k machine and go to properties - go the the Security Tab and Select the button named permissions. Assign as needed.

just go to the preferences for your network and put the ip address for the w2k on both the network pref., then check to make sure a password has not been set for the w2k that disables you from accesing it. -LOM
