Helloooo

Let me start with my op system etc

Windows XP Home Service Pack 1
Athlon Xp 2500 Barton
1 gig DDR 400.

A couple of weeks ago i installed Service Pack 2, but uninstalled it. Now when i boot up,i SOMETIMES get an error saying:-

Please insert the cd with service pack 1, i havent got this and cant find it on microsoft to reinstall it, when i click cancel its says, Carry on using unrecognised files. The PC is running fine, just comes up with this error, id like to get rid of it though. Ive got Norton 2004 Virus and Mcafee Antispyware, both of these are fully updated and ive got no spyware etc, any ideas anyone?

Well, its more secure with the firewall etc, but it blocks ports, so if someone downloads/fileshares *COUGH* its makes life a little hard on that front
So i chose to get rid of it for a while

Hmmm i have SP2 and I like it.... I only use the pop-up stopper... I straightaway disabled the firewall.... I like Zone Alarm.... I also file-share *coughs more* and I haven't had any problems so far.

If you get error messages and haven't 'got' the SP1 disk lol.... maybe you could try going to Windows update and updating minus SP2 (if you really don't want it) and see if that works.

i think you may be right about Win Update.... maybe we need to see exactly what your updates are.

Try Sisandra...I'm sure you've got it  ..under Windows Updates.

other than that try and that will tell you.

To avoid installing SP2, go to the windows update site. Choose custom install. Then when the SP2 install comes up, press Review Other Updates, then you can install all of them. :)

Let me know how you do.
