I have a Gravis Black hawk joystick but when I plug it into my game port my pc reports that its not connected. Why is this?

Are there any :?: in the Device Manager?
Have you used this before or is it new ?

Yeah,I used it about a year ago,it worked fine. It does actually have the joystick in the ADD NEW CONTROLLER list but when I select it,it says its not connected. :(
