Postby clennonuk » Wed Oct 13, 2004 4:00 pm

About 2/3 weeks ago i posted a copy of a hijack this log file in the hjt forum and was told my pc needed windows updates sp2 but because my friend installed windows from a disk he already had i can not download them straight from microsoft web site.I ordered a free sp2 disk from microsoft which i recieced today but as soon as i put the disk in my computer goes straight into power save mode.I have tried to put other disks in and they are all fine it only happens with the sp2 disk so i am a bit confused about what is happening so if anyone can help me out i would be very gratefull

It could be an invalid product key. right click on "My Computer" and check the key. If it doesn't have the 640 in the center,"XXXXX-640-XXXXXX-XX" it will spin in la la land for a 1/2 hour before it gives you the error invalid product key.

I wouldn't suggest installing SP2 just yet.
If you are having trouble installing Windows updates , use
THIS LINK that Cactus suggested.
