delete icon

Postby -Dman100- » Fri Aug 22, 2003 5:06 pm

I have a icon that shows up within the My Computer window that is called "My
Digital Camera".
I can't open any information for this icon, delete it or do anything with
it. The file>delete option is grayed out and I can't drag the icon to the trash bin and delete it that way either. When I right click on the icon I only get the following options:
-open
-Browse with Paint Shop Pro
-Explore
-Create Shortcut

The icon graphic is just the default generic windows icon. It doesn't have a digital camera icon.
Anyway, I'd like to get rid of this icon if it serves no purpose. I found
some information about my computer icons within the registry and was curious
if I can use the registry to delete this icon since I can't find any other
method to get rid of it. I looked under the following in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\

I found a folder or key for the digital camera. I understand I should be
cautious when messing with the registry. So, has anyone encountered this
particular problem? Would it be safe deleting this key (folder) in the
registry? If so, what is the proper way to delete this information? Do I
select the information in the left or right panel? Would it get rid of the
useless icon within the My Computer
window? I'm running Win2K. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for replying to my post. I have tried deleting the icon being logged on as the administrator and under the regular user profile I created for my work station. I still cannot delete the icon whether I'm logged on as administrator or my work user profile. I'm totally at a loss?

try downloading tweak UI.. it a tool by microsoft that allows you to do some advanced things like this

once installed I'd first check the my computer option/special folders and see if there is a special folder created for the desktop... if so, create a new folder somewhere that won't bother you, and move it through tweakui

if there is no My digital camera special folder, to to desktop, and it should be listed there, uncheck the box beside the icon, and it should disappear.
