Virus that cause winds not to shut down

Postby chrisc » Thu Sep 02, 2004 1:53 pm

Had lots of trouble with this virus a year ago and now a friend of mine has it. I can't remember the name of the virus. I told him to run stinger and I think that will find it. Anyone know the name of the virus. When you click on shut down, all the desktop items disappear like it's about to shut down then they all come back. Gonna do some more searching but am having trouble finding it....

I figured I'd have him do that too... Was just wonding if anyone remembered the name of the virus so I can give him the removal tool. Trying to take steps away from him or I could be in trouble! He's not the smartest person when it comes to computers or the internet....

Going to TrendMicro like Geekgirl suggested is a good start...Image

If that Scan doesn't detect it...get them to run HijackThis ver. 1.98.2 using the link in my signature below this post.

Get them to Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log here... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

I'll let you know what happens. I won't be able to post the info for a week since I'll be out of work for a week with knee surgery....
