Screensaver and password protection

Postby patkim » Wed Aug 25, 2004 3:24 pm

I have Win2k Professional on my office PC. The screensaver properties are protected on all PCs i.e. forcing to use only a specific screensaver with password protection.

Interestingly on my PC, despite such a setup the screensaver does not start. Instead after specified interval of inactivity the PC directly gets locked. As such it's true that a password protected screensaver on Win2K would need to be unlocked, but is this behavior (i.e PC directly getting locked instead of screensaver) some kind of problem or simply added enhanced security?
Thanks..

Hey patkim Image

If the screensaver is not coming on and its locking the pc instead of the screensaver being engaged then it sounds like a problem.
You should inform your Systems Administrator.

I would definately have someone with admin access login to see if you have a corrupt screensaver that's causing your computer to crash. I don't think what you are expiriancing is a designed security feature... although it is very effective.

If you plan on going away from your computer you could hit CTRL + ALT + Delete and choose "Lock Computer"... that would avoid the problem until your IT staff can figure it out for you
