I'm haveing a really wierd problem for some of my Microsoft programs. I'm not running a special language version of Windows XP. In the Paint program that comes with the OS, when I click on save as or close a window pops up thats in a different language. I've checked the launguage settings in the control panel and everything is set to English. This also happens in Word Pad, Corel Draw (which isn't a microsoft program), and one or two other programs. I've checked the individual programs for language settings but I can't find any. I asked the original owner of the PC about the problem and he said it's the wierdest thing he's ever heard. Any ideas what this could be??

Everything else is in English. Only certain popup boxes are in a different language.

I'd start off by checking add/remove programs to see if there are an language packs installed on it. (check both the main list that will come up, and the windows components section)
After that I'd start looking for viruses and spyware. I'd definately run Housecall antivirus (web based virus scanner) even if you already run another virus scan program, simply to make sure you don't have a problem. For spyware, try adaware, spybot, or both. I find that they work well together, and sort of compliment each other.
If you're still having problems, you may want to post a hijackthis log for someone to look over.
my gut feeling tells me that you'll either find something in add/remove programs or that this is a virus.

apart from a virus infection, i think some program got installed in a foreign language, and has links to those programs. It could even be installed in 2 languages. BTW what language is it?

That makes sense to me that another program got installed in another language...and very probable...it's the only explanation I can think of. I run Adaware, Spybot, and AVG regularly and I'm sure my PC is spyware and virus free. The only problem is, how do I determine which program it is? Would you be able to tell just by a Hijack log file? I wouldn't think so....
I think the language is German, but I'm not posotive.
