Hi Pete..

okay.. first of all.. do not panic.. this doesn't mean your computer is broken..

Active X is a set of rules which internet explorer uses to run programs and such from your web browser.. it is similar to Java.. but has much more access to your system.. as such.. it has been used by spyware and the like to install toolbars.. and other malicious programs..

as part of your original installation of windows.. and your security settings.. certain parts of active X may not even be installed.. or alternatively..

can you tell us what the pc healthcheck program is actually called.. and who it is written by? and also.. any reports it generates telling you what the missing files are..

but basically.. it doesn't sound as though this has been causing you any errors on your PC.. so don't start worrying about re-installing just because this program tells you you're missing a few files.. worry about re-installing when your computer stops working :)

what error did you get when system restore didn't work.. also.. did you try a different restore point.. may be that the one you tried was incomplete or something..

there could be many reasons why System Restore won't work.. corrupted restore points.. and antivirus software are two of the major criminals usually..

can you give me just a little more info please?? :)

I tried to Restore back to yesterday, and when that didn`t work I tried last week with the same result. The only error I got when the computer re-booted was "System Restore Incomplete" and No Changes were made to your System!
I have been using AVG Anti-Virus for 18 months now and have done a System Restore before , so I dont think this is to blame. So there you go!!
It`s got me Baffled ( That wouldn`t be too difficult lol)

I would advise that you try creating a new restore point today.. and seeing if you can restore that say 5 minutes later..

it could be that your yesterday restore point is corrupted.. and because of the way that SR qorks incrementally.. if yesterdays RP is corrupt.. it will affect all RP's previous to that...

try what I mentioned above.. if that works.. then a cirrupted RP yesterday is probably the culprit..

If the above works.. best thing to do is to create a full fresh restore point.. do this by going into control panel and then system restore.. turn it OFF for all drives.. then reboot

when you log back in.. go back to system restore.. yurn it back on and create a new restore point.. (it's up to you.. but you might want to delete all the old restore points before you turn this back on.. as a matter of housekeeping :))

Your System Restore doesn't have any "Restore Points" because we just got finished cleaning all the crud off your Computer. In the process of getting it clean (Using HJT) we had you "turn off" System Restore. That "wipes" all your restore points. Had we not had you turn it off you would have been able to restore and you have gotten all the Trojans / Worms / Adware / Malware / Foistware / and Hijackers back, too.
Why not run SFC?
Start / Run / Type sfc /scannow
Here's a

if you run sfc /scannnow, make sure to go find your Windows Xp install cd. I don't know why, but it demands the cd even if the cabs are on the hard drive.

If your missing a dll you can also do a search and search for the one you need, drop it in your C:\Windows\System and C:\Windows\System32 folders.
