Try un-installing your Video card completly, then re-install ,re-boot and let Windows detect it and re-install the drivers.
Also make sure your Monitor connections are ok.

Post back and let us know.

no.. this is a known issue with ATI cards.. or rather.. with the drivers for ati cards..

what you need to do is this.

1. Boot into safe mode
2. Go into device manager and open the properties page for your ATI card.
3. Click on resinstall/update driver
4. Tell windows you will select the hardware from a list
5. Select Standard display types, and pick the standard VGA controller from the list
6. REboot your machine
7. Run the ATI Catalyst driver package
8. Reboot once finished
9. Enjoy your now functioning system

:)

First of all do you have system restore turned on?
If yes then I would try restoring to the day before this all started.
You said that you could start up in vga mode,
that is what I would do and then do the restore.

thanks guys but somehow had restore turned off so that wasnt an option-I was getting really peed off so what ive done is install an old 20g hd i had and booted from that so ive now got a picture at least, reinstalled graphics driver on this hard drive and it seems to be going ok.course the problem i have now is how do i use my 160g hard drive on sata that still doesnt give me any picture if i boot from there and id rather run that as my primary hard drive to be honest
