hey if anyone can help me that would be great.i recently had a virus crash my hp pavilion xl753 with windows ME running on it.so i reinstalled windows 2000 server on it and now i cant get any sound on it.first thing is i need to know how to figure out what i have and then what drivers i need for the sound.if anyone can help please do thanks
Right click MyComputer...click Properties...then the Device Manager Tab.
See if your sound card is shown and if there are any Yellow exclamation marks!!
yes there is a couple of exclamations beside pci input device, pci simple communications controller.also by the sound, video and game controllers it says they are working fine so now what?
Beside the sound, video and game controllers is there a yellow ! there?
Click the plus sign+ beside sound, video and game controllers...
What does it say?
You need to find out what your motherboard is and install the drivers for it, if you have no sound card then your sound drivers are included with the motherboard drivers. None of your ports will work without these drivers
there is no yellow ! beside that and when i open it up it says the following audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacyvideo capture devices, media control devices, and video codecs
I was assumimg the MOBO drivers weren't touched during the re-install of just the OS...but Geekgirl is right,if they were effected, then that would be a good start.
I still want to know if the sound card is properly displayed and named in Device Manager.
