Hi !

I'm connecting 3 PCs on a home network as a workgroup, two of them have w2k on them, one of them has XP. I was thinking of using the netbeui protocol, I've got netbeui set up on the w2k pcs but I haven't got the XP cd at the moment and was wondering if I necessarily need it or if there was a way I could obtain the data from somewhere else ?

:(

When I hooked up my new Windows XP system to my exiting network I did not need to do anything I believe. Now this is a Windows XP Pro system which I think is much easier to network than XP Home, but it just recognized everything and worked. My existing system was setup on NETBEUI and I did not use the Network setup wizard to create the individual install floppy disk to use on the other systems. I was amazed how easy the setup was.

You don't need netbeui use tcp/ip on all of them. You will have a unique problem. The wizard network setup will fail for the W2k systems.

In both of those systems create a user with administative rights (same name and login on both machines)--It can take up to 5 minutes for all of the units to discover the network. From network neighborhood, double click on one of the 2k units and it will ask for a login and password. type in your administative user and password, andyour in.

Make sure that same person or another one with a login password exists on the xp machine also--w2k does not like a login without a password which is the way most xp users have their system boot up
