After a exe is written to disk or changed ( like if i run it ) it gets locked and i can not edit it ( move it , re-compile it , ect ) in any way.

I have recently re-installed my os and i don't remember this problem occurring priorly.

I will post additional information as asked to.

Also if you know of any programs / viruses that might lock any and all exes when there is a slight change to them or they are ran let me know !

This image shows the processes running. I have indexing and search disabled. I disabled all antivirus and everything i could think of that might lock the file for a bit.

That all sounds normal to me. Windows will protect any files in use so that running processes won't crash.

Well before i re-installed my pc i didnt have this behavior. It's also intermitent. An example of a problem caused by this is that i cant run any program that is trying to update its own exe. such as HLDSUPDATETOOL.EXE so i cant setup a dedicated server. Or when im programming and i can only compile after a minute after debugging.

I tried but it didn't seem to list anything as accessing the file at all. I'll keep looking into things. Could a pc worm cause this ?

Actually found it, Says System. one of the 3 files i tested had 11 references the other two had 1 reference.

Think I'm going launch my pc in 'Default Only' mode via msconfig and see if the problem persists.

Additionally: All 3 have 1 ref and 1 handle this last test. All 3 are being used by "System" and say "A disk file, communication endpoint, or driver interface."

Also is there a way to check if a forced closed handle cause my hd to get destroyed or something ? As this may of been the case on my secondary given all files seem to work/read fine just not exe's. though not the case on my primary which is where I'm doing some of this testing.

EDIT:
This error does not persist in Safe Mode CMD with explorer.exe enabled or at least as far as i could tell.

EDIT 3: Potentially Fixed. I disabled application experience or some jabber like that in services. Also re-enabled pretty much all the services from programs i have installed regardless of wheteher or not i use them anymore.

If the problem comes back 'll be sure to post.

Try "Unlocker" software, it will move delete or unlocks any file . all the best.
