Laptop shuts down whilst playing battlefield 2

Hey guys,

Ive recently started playing battlefield 2 on my laptop and after about 10 minutes of gameplay the laptop just turns itself off. ive downloaded speed fan and ran it whilst the game was on and i monitered the heat and it pretty much hit 99 degrees on everything except the hdd and then shut off so im guessing when it hits 100 it shuts off for saftey reasons. It also does the same whilst playing metro 2033 (the only other game i have on my laptop).

right now its running at the following:

GPU: 53C
HD0: 32C
Core 0: 56C
Core 1: 53C
Core 2: 53C
Core 3: 53c

But when the game is running it all hits 99C pretty rapid except the HD0 which stays the same temp. I downloaded FurMark but didnt really know what to do with it so i decided to leave it and ask the experts. My laptop is only a year old and in pretty mint condition, here are its stats.

Its a very very common problem with notebooks and the only real solution has been cooling pads. Anything that consumes energy creates heat, the more you consume the hotter it gets. Gaming demands more power, thus more heat and shutting down. Most people end up with coolers such as . Those are inexpensive but they help, another thing that helps some without having a cooler is setting something under the back of it to raise it an inch or so for air to flow under it. Also, having it on a hard surface and not on a pillow,blanket or couch cushion. That tiny little fan on the bottom of it (assuming it works at all) needs air.

Thanks for the reply mate. Yeah i thought about getting a cooler pad but i wanted to just get a lil expert advice before i spent the pennys I think ill order one today, hopefully get it by wednesday so i can continue this level !! Thanks again

I have this exact same problem on my Sony Vaio and others have as well on various other laptops. It is most definitely NOT a temperature issue. This problem has been driving me bonkers for the past few months and I finally was able to isolate the problem to my video card, an Nvidia Geforce GT 330M. Here is a link to the Nvidia forums where another person posted about this months ago and it was never addressed by Nvidia:



To add to the list of games in which this problem occurs: Fallout 3, Skyrim and L.A. Noire.

Did you miss the part where he said its hitting 99 degrees? I dont care how YOU slice it but that IS a heat problem.

No actually, I did not miss that part. My point was that even when he eliminates overheating as an issue (as I did), he is still going to experience these random shutdowns because of the video card. If not in that particular game, then in some other game.
