Try the .
or
.

Since the supplier didn't give you/him a restore disk, and you encounter continuing problems, I'd take the HD to them and ask for a repair of WinXp. They may be worried about fraud but what they're doing "teaters on the edge", too.

Yeah -I know what you mean...

He has taken his HD to another mate of his, who should resolve it for him....but a very large inconvienience for him.

I think that Leading High Street Shops should start being reasonable here. I mean, not everyone is gonna take Bill Gates for a ride are they. I will post them links onto him( Not Bill Gates, My mate!!! )

Thanks again

Boro

Edit: Just realised I couldnt post them on to him!!! He has no working PC!!!

Where there's a will.....there should be a way

hidden partition

Postby ogrrii » Sun Mar 21, 2004 8:51 pm

What the manufacturers do is create a hidden partition, even fdisk will not get rid of it.
The suppliers will in his kindness sell you a cd that will access this aprtition normally around £70.00.

You can make them tell you how to get rid of this partition but then you are on your own as far as an OS is concerened

I know this as a friend had the same trouble. The downside is that you may need drivers for the little extras that are installed on your machine.
My friends one had to have a special version of nero for example.

So basically what manufacturers are doing is flogging computers for the same price as before, and effectively no operating system???

I saw something like this a few weeks ago at a customers house. This individual had an HP PC and it had the restore on a secondary drive with No boot disk or cd. What he was supposed to do was initiate the restore from within the current operating system using the HP restore software that was included with the computer. So basically he was stuck the same way your friend is.. No boot disk and no OS to install..

You have 2 options imo.
1. He can contact the place where he bought the box.
or
2. Get ahold of XP and install his own copy and not worry about the built in crap.

The PC i was on about (A Time PC) if you lost your OS and it was un-bootable you purchase this bootable CD that had the info on it to look at the hidden partition.

If you install your own OS you lose what ever they set aside on the hidden partiton. Fdisk does not even recognise it so allowing you to delete it..

I would not recommend a Time PC to anyone !!!!!!!!!!!
