Computer loses power during gaming

Built it myself. I didn't apply any thermal paste, but my CPU was running at over 100C at once time - that may have caused some meltage. Pretty sure there was no thermal paste though..

It's an Intel Quad Core, they stopped making this model (I wonder why...).
When I bought it, it was listed as "extremely overclockable". Yay!

lol people always quit making things that work, pretty crazy. Im far from a fan of intel but if it got that hot and kept going im super impressed.

PS . Apply some to the center of your CPU, approx the size of a Pea, then put the heatsink back on.



I personally like to power up and load the machine for a few minutes to warm it up then shut it off for 15 min or so to allow the compound to set.

Oh, one last question. How would I go about removing the heatsink from the cpu if there is thermal paste on it? Wouldn't it be too sticky?

and one last LAST question: what are the differences between thermal pastes? (besides price). Its either $15 for the one you linked me, or $2.50 for some other one. How much does quality differ?

Theres thermal paste and then theres thermal adhesive. Adhesive is just that, its a real pain in the ass when its time to remove a heatsink. Paste isnt really sticky, the consistency stays pretty close to the same as it is when you apply it. When it comes time to remove a heatsink that has paste, "IF" it doesnt come right off you can slightly twist it until it does. Removing it while its warm is probably the easiest though. Note that in 14 years of building, upgrading, etc. i've never had an issue removing a heatsink with it. Adhesive however has been a thorn in my side more than once. I've used things like fingernail polish remover, "goo gone", Isopropyl rubbing alcohol, gasoline just to remove the the damn things. This is of course after the cpu pulled out of the socket during failed attempts of HS removal.

The above is the main difference. As far as quality, its said that the higher silver content the better but i know of no real major advantage between the different ones offered other than previously stated. Ive used everything from artic silver 5 to a plain white thermal grease available at any electrical supply store. In regards to that though, through personal experience i find that any silver based type does indeed dissipate heat better than silicone based grease.
