Is it hard to add a operating system to a refurbished system

Hey guys i was recently thinking of replacing my current computer with a decent dual core computer and there are a couple at the 300 dollar price range, but they dont have a operating system. I am willing to buy a full Windows xp so if i were to do this how hard is it too install?

Installing an OS is easy.
You put the OS disk in the drive and then when your PC is turning on, boot to the DVD drive. Then you just follow the steps.

The problem is with drivers. This is one of the advantages of W7 over XP.
You'll probably find that when you've installed XP and get to the desktop, your GPU won't be working properly, you won't have any Ethernet ports working (so no internet), you won't have sound, etc...

All things I've seen for myself at least.

However, it's easy enough to find out the make and model of the mobo, and the gpu, and download all the necessary drivers to a USB stick (for example) so you can install them on the new OS.
