Win 7 upgrade

I purchased a PC over the summer that came with a free WIN 7 upgrade. I am not yet ready to do the upgrade but would it be wise to hold off applying SP2 to VISTA as I am planning to upgrade or would that have no effect on the upgrade when I am ready?
