Internet wont work !!!

Howdy. Im trying to sort out my dads PC for him at the moment. His internet has stopped working.

it used to drop the internet connection fairly regularly and show the "limited or no connectivity" symbol. A system restore would sort this out.

Now, that symbol is not present but no internet. It wont do a system restore either.Im suspecting an infection.

Ive found a few strange things happening as well:

The Windows firewall is set to "on" and is greyed out completely (wont let me turn it off).

I cant access the router settings (192.168.1.1) either.

Ive done a virus scan ( although definitions a week old) but nothing showed up. SO no matter what AV i run i cant update it first. Ive also run malware bytes (without it being updated) but only found warnings.

Im stumped and feel like wiping the whole thing and doing a fresh install of Windows.

Any ideas ?

First lets see if he is being assigned an IP from the router.

Click Start, click Run Type CMD in the field and press enter.
In the command box window type:
ipconfig /all (note the space between the g and the /) and press enter.

Please post the following results in you next reply:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

Do you have any way to transfer files between your system and his like a flash drive?
If so then download to your system and then copy it to his.

The double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

Do not exit Combofix while it is running you my loose all your personal settings!
Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running, that may cause it to stall.

When it's done running it will produce a log for you.
copy it to your system and post that log also in your next reply.

Ya I have a flash drive Gecko. Will do combofix in the morning.

It IS being assigned an IP adress. I did the ipconfig thing already. I also tried assignign a static IP address but no joy there either.
However, i'll post the addresses in the morning as well.
