Computer lockup

Postby upallnight » Tue Jan 27, 2004 12:51 am

Ever since my brother installed my AMD Athlon XP 2200+, I've been experiencing random lockups. The computer will just.. freeze. No more mouse movement, everything just stops and I have to shut it down manually. Somebody thought that it was overheating and that I should use thermal grease.. but I dunno. My mobo is a BCS EliteGroup K7SEM, if that helps.

Funny, but the first thing I found when looking this up was:
"....take the heatsink off the cpu chip, take the thermal pad or tape off the heatsink, clean good with alcohol, then put thin layer of thermal paste between heatsink and cpu chip.."
If others found this effective, and it works, it's a cheap fix.
