Pc- Audio Problem--Help

Postby p3rfect » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:46 pm

I keep hearing a static/popping sound from my speakers.

I used my headphones and I still hear it so I don't think it's the speakers. If I put a movie on the pc I can hear it but, the static/popping sound is louder. I unistalled and re-installed the audio software (Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit) multiple times along with restarting the pc and it still comes back.

I have 5.1 surround sound. Dell Dimension 5100.

I opened my pc to look at the hardware and I don't see any problems.

Please help, what do I do?

Hello p3rfect, and welcome to our forum.

First let's try changing your MIDI music playback device as I've read a number of posts that said that resolved their similar problem.

From the control panel select Sound and Audio Devices > Audio tab.
In the MIDI music playback section select change it to Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth and OK you way out.
Reboot the system and see if that resolves the noises.

If not then right click on my computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager click "View and select view resources by connection" and look at you're irq situation. If your sound card is sharing an IRQ with another device I suggest you might try to get it on its own IRQ

The below link is one way to install Creative cards and get them on their own IRQ
