High CPU usage

I wondering if anyone has any ideas on this, all input will be appreciated .

My system:

Asus A7A-266E Motherboard
Athlon 1900+
GeForce 3 Ti500
Soundblaster Live Value
512MB DDR RAM
60GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 HDD
Maestro Woomera 56K Modem
Windows XP Pro

I recently was helping family with their pc as it had boot sector problems. I removed the hard drive from their pc made it a slave and put it in mine on the secondary ide controller. My pc detected it fine and I was able to browse it with no problems. After I had taken a look and backed up some stuff form the slave onto disk I removed the slave drive and put it back in the other pc. For some reason now my pc has high cpu usage when I open programs and sporadically when playing music through winamp and avi's through windows media player 9.0. I have noticed this on task manager and it appears that it is not one program that is hogging it but anything that is open. So even when I am doing nothing but playing music on the pc, my music intermittantly slows right down. I have even noticed that it effects my screen saver as well. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this?

Try running and/or .
Make sure both are updated before use.

Have run adaware and spybot as well as doing a housecall scan. Hasn't solved the problem.
Can the cpu still be searching for a drive that isn't there?

Seems like you're not alone with this problem. Did a and as you can see, tons of hits.
When you go to Task Manager, what Processes show the highest percent of usage? That should give a clue.
Read some of the pages in the Google search and try some of the suggestions.
One suggestion that was repeatedly mentioned is this:
Back up Registry First
Run regedit in XP, locate this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32 and delete it. What happens is that when XP Explorer runs into something like an AVI, it attempts to read the complete file. This eats up your memory and cpu Deleting this key will stop that from happening but it will not harm playing the file.
Another repeated suggestion:
Unplugging a USB Multi-Card Reader stopped many instances of high CPU usage.
Let us know what those Processes are.......
