restoring ntdetect.com file

Postby chippy32 » Sat Aug 13, 2005 12:35 am

for some reason i put my ntdetect.com file in the recycling bin, which is needed to start windows2000 pro. I placed my windows2000 cd to boot from it, but a few of the files on it were corrupted. I don't have a boot disk but will I have to reformat or is there a way I can just copy the ntdetect file to my c drive?
any ideas would be great.

To repair or reinstall, you will need a working 2000 cd. That is the easiest way to do a repair.

If you go to , I believe that there is a 3 disk floppy boot that may get you into the root directory and let you copy the file from your floppy to the root directory of the hard drive.

The web site below, gives you a little more insight on the cd approach

Also check your cd--a fingerprint can make it error out

Hope this is of some help
