Networking xp to xp isnt working...

Postby liljim » Sun Nov 23, 2003 8:53 am

Im really having a hard time with this for some reason. Here's the senario...
I got 2 computers running xp pro.Computer 1 is able to see computer 2 in the workgroup but cannot access any of the shared files.I get a message saying you might not have permission to use this network resource.Contact the administrator of this server to make sure you have access permissions.
Computer 2 cant see Computer 1 at all but is able to share an internet connection with 1.
I tried the network wizard, checked the workgroup names, checked the installed protocols and everything else i can think of.I also tried to ping from 1 to 2 but couldnt get anything there. This is my first attempt at xp networking,i've set up win98 several times with no probs.

What am i missing?

Use the administrator's login, for one system and add it as a user to the other system.
Assign these new users administrator rights.

i got it working but i had to change the media type in the advanced settings of my network adapter. It was set to auto config on both machines.I set them to 100BaseTX Full Duplex and now all is well.
