Explorer problem or something else?

Postby nopcidea » Fri Nov 14, 2003 10:42 am

After years of using a really old computer I've entered the modern world and have a new laptop. It came with XP installed. I've connected to the net and find that I open a page Internet Explorer (?) decides to click back to the page I was on previously. I also find that when I'm on the net the mouse is sluggish. I have also had a box pop up saying there was a System 32 generic host thing so I went as directed to the Microsoft page and downloaded all the patches and updates for XP they recommended. The Generic Host box doesn't pop up anymore. When the net page clicks back one nothing comes up.

I'm not sure what is meant to be done to fix this. I have tried disk clean up and it told me a whole bunch of system 32 files that didn't 'defrag'. I loaded on an anti-virus thing and it found a worm and deleted the file - in a system 32 I think. I've downloaded all kinds of cleaners - registry etc and deleted lots of things that for all i know shouldn't be deleted but none of these things have fixed the internet page clicking back problem.

Any help much appreciated as i obviously don't know what I am doing and should have stuck with Windows 95.

Thanks and sorry this goes on and on and on.
