Where are my CD drives?

The PC recognizes the drives (A CD-R and a DVD drive) at startup, but they're not in My Computer. (neither are any of the virtual drives). When I check any of the drives' properties in the device manager, it says: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

then it says I have to check the troubleshooter, but none of it's advice (uninstall the drives, restart and isntall again) helps.

Did you by chance uninstall Easy CD Creator or some other burning software?
If so then you will want to read from Microsoft.
If not then, have you checked the manufacturers website for new drivers for your CD-R and DVD drives?
Do you have the aspi 4 in 1 drivers installed?
It could also be the IDE controller drivers. Right click on My Computer, click properties, select the Hardware tab, click the Device Manager button are there any yellow icons under IDE ATI/ATAPI controllers?
