What version of Windows Media Player do you have installed bsxiong?

To see which Windows Media Player version you have (right-click the title bar, point to Help menu, and then click About Windows Media Player). For example, 10.00.00.3646.

Hi bsxiong Image

Open Windows Media Player, under Tools >Options>File Types make sure you have the type of file your trying to play is checked in there.

And seeing you have wmp10 I'm assuming you have all your Windows Updates installed ........

Do you have installed on your computer?

Go here to the link I provided, theres a link about a quarter ways down that says WMP 10 Codecs. Install it and see if it helps.

Also ...have you seen before ?

It tells you the codec(s) you need for playing the file you want to play :)

is this just happening to one file or every file? you said this is avi's only now?
do you have WMP as the default program to load avi's?

my computer >tools>folder options > file types tab >
locate avi . check if its the default load app.. if not change it to WMP and see if that helps.

the latest codecs can be found here... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... nload.aspx

Two things.

First, get a better player for avi files then WMP. There is a free player called BS Player. Here is the link: Make sure you grab the free one.

Second, the link Lilpinkflower gave you is a great tool. Download that, which is free also, and use it to open the avi file. It will then tell you which codecs are needed to play that file and whether or not you have it installed on your PC. Then google each codec and install it. Then it should work fine. :)

.avi files used to work on my windows media player, and then for some reason they stopped, but then i upgraded to 10 series and it fixed my problem. Have you recently updated windows media player or what?
