Cannot boot into safe mode in XP

Postby knightsgoalie20 » Thu Sep 30, 2004 11:43 pm

I cannot boot into safe mode in Windows XP Home Edition (SP1). When attempting to boot into safe mode the PC freezes at multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\Mup.sys and will sit here for over an hour. Not sure that I have ever been able to boot into safe mode. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

That looks like a master boot record.
Do you have a dual boot system/something that boots from a network drive?
When you boot into just safe mode you do not have network drivers.
Have you tried the "Safe Mode with Networking" option?

I tried your suggestion of booting into safe mode with networking and it worked this time. THANKS! You have been a big help.
