unknown dll help

Postby gero » Thu Sep 30, 2004 7:16 am

hello all,

I am running XPhome with SP2, and everytime i right-click, i get a "failed to load resource DLL" error. Everything works fine after that, the menu comes up and everything---it is just stupid and annoying (and obviously my fault)

I've seen a site linked on these boards for a .dll resource, but i am really clueless about the whole thing, other than what dll stands for.

since the OS doesn't give me a specific file to look for, im in the dark.

does anyone know the best fix for this?

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

without a specific .dll file, your stuck with speculations. here are some ideas for you to look into. There are many programs that add menu items to right clicked menus. Anti-virus programs add things like scan this file, winzip adds add this file to newfile.zip or extract this file to ..., Winamp adds play this song, enqueue this song. Is there something missing from your menu that used to be there, or did the problem start happening after a program upgrade or uninstall.

you could look in the system's Event log... i know XP pro has the event log, not positive on XP home. If you have the Event Log, check it to see if any more details are recorded in there.

You may lastly want to check out to learn about spyware, and possibly even run housecall antivirus to check-up on your other anti-virus solution to make sure it's working.

thanks teststrips

i checked into that, i think it may have been because i moved some unused programs to my backup hdd. i clicked on all the possible "send to" options, and redirected them to all the new locations.

it has always been kind of come and go, but i hope this solved it.

thanks again, i never even thought about the menu items
