invalid backweb application id 8876480

Postby kees12345 » Sat Aug 14, 2004 3:33 am

Hi,
I am using windows XP operating system.
When I select the Start button and log off and select switch user.
The other user screen displays.
But I always get a message.
Invalid Backweb application id 8876480
wit a select OK button.
When i click on the OK button this error message disappears and i can use this user section without any problems.
Do I need to attend to this error message?
It is quite annoying to get it each time!
Can I get rid of it?
I would appreciate someones help.
Thank you.

Hello kees12345 Image

Download / Install / Update / and Run:

And:

If you're still having problems:

Download and install: .
Run it and post a copy of the Log File.

(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders.
A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents,
as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Backweb if its there, also read

Hi Geek Girl

Thank you for your reply.
I have previously tried spybot and that did not work.
I have already previously downloaded Hijackthis but i am a little concerned that i am out of my debt using this program.
My computer is working all right and the error window does not affect me that much.
I will wait untill some one with a bit more computer knowledge then i have, visits me and helps me through this procedure.
But I remain grateful for your input.
Thanks again.
Kind regards.

is a software company/product.
From what I’ve read it gives other companies an easy way to update software over the web.
For example Hewlett-Packard was using it so they could
install software updates and patches to hp owners systems in the background.
It gets identified as spyware by Spybot Search & Destroy because
it could potentially be used to install anything.

In Spybot Search & Destroy you can use the Recovery option to
restore the reference to Backweb.
You will have to scroll through the list to find it.

how to get rid of "Invalid Backweb Application id 88764

Postby xxxgeek » Fri Aug 27, 2004 8:35 pm

This error is from an application that runs in the background and checks for software updates. It is not necessarily spyware/adware. Different companies use it, one of them is Logitech. The application could have been deleted somehow, but the registry entry has not been removed. You can either ignore the error message, or edit the registry for each user that gets this message and get rid of it.

On my machine, it was found in the "run" section under hkey_current_user/softare/microsoft/windows/currentVersion/Run section.
There was an entry labeled LDM with the following key value:
C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

I deleteted this key value, the error message went away!

Good luck.

ps - Note: I found this registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER section, NOT the global section HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE!! If it is also in hkey_current_user on your machine, you will have to login to this computer for each user that has an account and edit the registry to remove it once and for all for everybody!
