system shutdown screen keeps popping up...help!

ok...the dreaded 'system shutdown' pop up keeps coming up. sometimes it comes up instant, other times i can be on my system for an hour. i would like to know why this is coming up and how to fix it? i had a application called gamespy, the thing where you can play online games. my friends on there said it was gamespy itself bugging so i uninstalled it but still it kept popping up. before i uninstalled gamespy, one of my friends said something abotu deleting SVCHOST.exe. but its impossilbe for me to delete. any help? dell demeniosn 4300 1.9 ghz.

I also have gamespy installed but haven't uninstalled it. I have tried a system restore, full virus scan and deletion of spyware using ad-aware, all to no avail.

An error report is created every time with the following information:

The finer details of the error report are as follows:

c:DOCUME~1\Julian\Locals~1\Temp\WER15.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt


A warning message is then received from NT AUTHORITY SYSTEM that is recommends all work to be saved and programs closed and begins a countdown to shut off the computer after 1 min.


I am running Windows XP Home on a Athlon 2Ghz, 512mb system.
