Physical Memory

Postby rodder » Mon Jun 28, 2004 11:09 pm

I went into system information in XP home. It said I had 512 MB total Physical Memory, but only 264.89 Available Memory. Why the difference?
PS im a 70 yr old newbie

Because the Programs/Processes and Operating System that are running are using 247.11 MB.
At least you are running WinXp. When you stop using a Program in XP it gives the RAM (Memory) back, to be used by other Programs.
In earlier Windows versions the only way to regain used RAM was to reboot.
