Secure network

Postby venney » Tue Sep 25, 2007 5:17 pm

Hello well we just got our virgin media internet/tv.

i went and baught a Linksys wireless modem, and i tried using the set up wizard and put all the settings to secure etc, but when it says checking settings, it says it cannot find an internet connection or something like that, so i closed the network wizard and just connected to it, and it works, but its unsecured. seems to be quiet slow for 20mb broadband aswell.

basically, my question is how do i make the network secure?

can someone give me a step by step guide please. i did a quick search on the net and diddnt really look clear. i should be able to do it if someone points me in the correct way. thanks.

venney,

Do you mean a Linksys router?

Click on this link: http://192.168.1.1
username: blank (dont type anything)
password: admin

Click on the wireless tab > click on wireless security

You can selected WEP, 64bits and type a 10 digit password in key 1

Or select WPA-personal, either TKIP or AES type any password which has min of 8 characters

Glade to hear you got it all setup and secure venney!

I like following your posts, you end up answering all your own questions. :D

Make sure you remember that router login otherwise you will have to reset it back to factory default and then set it all up again.
