I have a friend that claims her email is being intercepted by her bastard of an ex-husband. Can this be done remotely? Can someone gain her password, and access her email remotely? If so, how are they doing it? I don't think the guy has physically accessed her puter, And I think most web based email will disable your password after so many failed attempts. So how could one crack a password, and get access to her emails? A friend of hers that worked for NASA claims this is possible with some sort of software. But he doesn't say which software.

Ok I’m not going to speak specifically and as I am not a hacker this information may not be totally correct. But this is what I have learned in computing.

Email clients use keys to encode the emails, it’s all done automatically.
Everyone has a public key and a private key.
Lets do some role-play. We have person a and person b.
Person a is sending the email to person b.

A's message is encrypted using b's public key, and it can only be decrypted using his b's private key, which only he/his email client knows.

So lets say person c intercepts the email, he can only decrypt it if he has person b's private key. I think there probably is software to get the information.

I have a feeling that possibly what I have just explained is only on networks.
If his computer is on the same network as her, it is fairly easy to intercept the message, you can have programs that instead of rejecting all the information sent to it, it records it all.

If your friends ex-husband knows her password he can obviously check the emails.
Most email clients have a password + secrete question. Make sure your friend changes both, to something that her ex can never know. Because if he knows the answer to her secrete question he has the power to change her password.

What you said is correct, but this person is not on her network. It was claimed he did it remotely, by hacking her password using some software and gaining access to her email. I think personally he got the password from the ISP via Identity theft. But I was just curious about the software accusations. Also she is using a Linux box....no trojan.

Only thing i can suggest is keep an eye on this post, im sure someone with more experiance/knowledge of this sorta thing can help

What can be happening here, is that the wife opened up a hotmail, or google account while using her old (or husbands email address). If he knows her email address, he can try to log on with her name, and click on Forgot Password, and a link to access the account will apear in the old email account, or they get a password hint.

Plus if you have been married to the person, it might not be too hard to figure out what the password is. If the server is not secure, you can use a program that is a dictionary attack that will try to get in. I use that program on Word docs and Excel spread sheets that are locked by the author so you can't edit them.

Your best defense is an 8 character password with a capital letter, a number, a lower case letter, and an alpha numeric. For example Pa$sw0rd.

To add on what has already been stated web based emails can be cracked by simply placing a call especially if the guy knows the information you gave when you signed up. my advice would be your best route to follow is if this is a free account dump it set up a new one and tell everyone that you want to talk to where they can reach you. if this is an account through an isp (such as roadrunner or verizon) or you pay money to access it contact them about switching to a different user name and password that the guy would not know. Besides if he's your ex you probably dont want to talk to him more then necessary anyways.

hey everyone whats up, i have question for a hacker !! is there anyway to find out who some is on myspace ? i am gettin these emails from some girl on myspace that says she noes me, she is also sending my girlfriend emails saying lies, i would pay to find out who this person is, any info would be great !! also is it possible some one hacked into my myspace and read my emails to pple in order to no so much about me, then make a fake myspace and write my girlfriend ?

this forum wont help you hack, but if you have a genuine problem, email my space and tell them to delete the other account.
