Corporate spying

This isn't exactly about spying per se, but I've often wondered whether the corporate servers capture webmail attachments as they come or go.

If I receive an email (webmail) with an attachment, is it stored anywhere other than in cache on my computer? And if I sent an email with a similar attachment that was on a floppy or USB flashdisk, does it get stored anywhere outside of my computer?

I have no doubt that if the company were suspicious of anyone, everything they do at their desk can be monitored. But I was just wondering as a matter of course about the above questions.

From what I've read, any company doing business in the US has to maintain a copy of all correspondence. I think what you are asking is are they reading it? The answer is no, they don't have the time.

But if you got in a lawsuit with another employee, it would be no problem to pull up everything you have emailed and every web site you have ever visited.

Mime Sweeper is a program that a lot of businesses use. I clicked on a link to Paris Hiltons phone numbers and got notified by Mime Sweeper that porn sites were not allowed.--there's a log file of that whimsical mouse click with my name on it

Another thing also, your corporate email is not considered private, its company property.

You can still go to yahoo aol or any other provider and they can't touch it. If you access your mail from the web they can't see it.
