dell comp was given to me i downloaded avg antivirus free edition and ran it results were had trojan dialer.17.e cant get rid of it please help if u can thanks

AVG is excellent but it's worth just trying another scanner.
Have you tried any free online virus scanners ? Sometimes using another one will do the trick. If you look at the top left hand corner of this page you will see a link for 'Free Online Virus Scan'

Also try downloading and running 'Spybot: Search and Destroy' and 'Ad-Aware SE'

If that is no help to you then you need to post your Hijackthis logfile on the 'Hijackthis support' forum.
Download Hijackthis and make it a folder of its own, show us the logfile and a moderator will check the log.
