Internet "activity" ???

Hi, I have two pc's connected via a network cable (no router) so that the both pc's can access the internet via my BROADBAND connection. Now my trouble is sometimes when my main pc is just sitting idle, i can see "internet activity", i.e the little blue pc's in task bar are flashing. Now then as far as i know neither pc has anything running even in "the background" which should do this. I have zonealarm installed and also AVG antivruus. I have checked for virusus, spyware and all sorrts. Should this "activity" be happening?, I never used to have it before when I had dial-up, although I never had the other pc connected then. and i have double checked this IS the broadband p'cs in the task bar and not the ones for my network connection.

Is it possible you have some programs set up for automatic update such as Windows Updates, antivirus updates etc?

NO, I always have things like this OFF.

Does your Zone Alarm, anti virus or any anti spyware or email programs have real time monitoring ?

Try this: Make a note of the times you see the activity. Then open your firewall and check the firewall logs and see if the times coinside with any activity recorded by the firewall. Is it not possible that the firewall could be detecting activity such as pings on your system?

NO not that I know of. This activity by the way, Is not constant it's usually ONE screen (task bar) flashing.

You can get us a HijackThis log for each machine to make sure you dont have some hidden things going on.

I have the same thing happening on my pc, I worried about it at first but after a while I didnt bother any more. If you remember I used to post my hijack logs and they were always clean. I did notice that when I was connected with a certain string of I P addys it happened all the time, these were I P addys that I was continuously being attacked by trojans. At that time I was using Norton Internet Security and when ever an attack came I would get a warning in the task bar. Now with PC-Cillin I dont get the warning but the little pcs flash. I dont know it was just a shot in the dark.
