Persistant Trojan!!!!

Postby Torquay-Pete » Thu Jun 02, 2005 6:20 pm

Hello again, After my last post a few days ago I thought that I had removed the Trojan that had been bugging me for a few days. The Parasite is SndMon16.exe which is a backdoor SdBot.75.BQ trojan. I have AVG running, Spybot I.E sheild running, I have done scans with ALL of the following progs, Error Nuker,TDS-3,Spyware Doctor, and Trojan Guard...all of these have found some problems and removed them, I have scanned my entire system with RegMechanic and run AdAware every day but still I get a Virus Alert every so often from AVG. If I miss this alert and the timer on AVg runs out the file is placed in the Virus vault OK but my Sound Device is disabled until I re-boot!!.
As you can imagine I am really Hacked off with this   .
Can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this Parasite?? Cheers P.O.P (P*ssed of Pete)

Please download , unzip it to it's own folder.
Start HijackThis and select 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'
Now post the contents of the logfile back into this thread

Please copy this to Notepad and print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
You should not have any open windows when you are following the procedures below.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and"End Task"or"End Process"on each of the following:
(They may or may not be there)
incrediBar
drivesd

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.)
Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: IBBHO - {12BA043E-293E-4CE4-A8C7-8460934FE801} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: IncrediBar - {D8073790-84C7-4602-BF77-C6ACBF1612E4} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Update Driv] drivesd.exe
O9 - Extra button: IncrediBar - {023FA804-DCE1-4817-94ED-6BA4200F9AF2} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dl
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {0E8D0700-75DF-11D3-8B4A-0008C7450C4A} -
O16 - DPF: {4C39376E-FA9D-4349-BACC-D305C1750EF3} -
O16 - DPF: {A90A5822-F108-45AD-8482-9BC8B12DD539}

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
incrediBar

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.
Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dl

Do a system search for drivesd.exe and delete this file also

If you could not delete any of the above file
Start HijackThis and click the Open the misc tools section now click Delete a file on reboot
Select the file to delete and click open but click no to reboot now do the same for each file

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders, Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your Recycle Bin, reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

Well you do have something writing to the registry but they are deactivated (no file).
The other bad things are gone now.
I would suggest that you first upgrade windows to SP2 it has a lot of security updates.
Also I do not see a firewall running SP2 activates window’s firewall by default

After you update windows try running AVG from safe mode:
Restart, after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
