monitor self test on startup-problem solved

Just built a pc for my youngest son and when we turn it on the monitor self test comes on. It says the monitor is working and to check the cable. I just hit the reset button and then it posts and everything works fine. Tried several different settings in the bios with no success.

1.2g duron, KCC mobo K7TA-H, 256mb ram, Matrox G400 AGP video, onboard sound, Gateway EV700 monitor

Does it sound as though the PC is starting up even though you can't see anything onscreen (i.e. if you leave it on does the hard disk start going & do you hear any of the wqindows startup sounds)?

No sounds until I hit the reset button.

Checked all connections and reseated, found some forums where ppl had similar problems. Appears that the power supply is the problem. One guy said he's had the same problem for 3 years but was too lazy to change out the psu, lol.
