In the last few weeks my computer seems to be losing its speed and ability to handle multiple programs. Lately I've been getting the message that I don't have enough memory to do some of the simplest things. I also get the message to shut down one or more programs when maybe I only have one program running...that I can see.

I installed Norton antivirus 2004 a couple of weeks ago and have heard that its a huge program that eats RAM. Could this possibly be my problem or am I just hearing a lot of negative advertising hype.

How much ram do you have?and which are you running 95,98 or ME?Do you run scandisk and defrag and do you clean out cookies and temp files regularly?Norton is somewhat heavy on resources,if your system isnt quite up to par you will see a performance drop.Disable it and run some of your applications to see if you stop getting low memory errors.Just be cautions about being online and opening emails and such without it.

First off Windows ME itself is a memory hog.182 megs of ram isnt alot to work with either especially with programs such as Photoshop.Assuming your using Internet Explorer:right click the internet explorer icon on your desktop and select properties.Under "General" you should see an option to clear cookies.As far as your memory problems,go to Start>Programs>startup and see if theres any software listed that you dont use,If so right click and delete.You will only be deleting a shortcut..not the actual program.Also go to Start>Run>msconfig then go to the "Startup" tag.Uncheck any software there that you dont need,but only do so if your SURE you dont need it.This should help in lowering your resources.
