Hi wonder if you can help im running XP pro just had new power supply installed what is happening is when windows loads it hangs at black screen for about 80 seconds then it goes to XP welcome screen and windows loads as normal and everything works fine and PC runs fine, i have reinstalled drivers for graphics card updated, but it still does it this was not happening before power supply went wrong

This has only happend since new power supply tried system restore and last known good config but still the same

any help appreciated

so, just to be clear, since you have installed a new psu, it takes longer for your pc to boot?

yes thats correct PSU blew and had new PSU put in since then the above has been happening, but when it does load windows runs fine just hangs a black screen and takes long time to load before welcome screen comes up never did this before

Hello Fusion, amd welcome to our forum.

It sounds to me like windows is looking for some device, device driver or a network drive.

Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red or yellow icons, from the last startup date only, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you don't show any errors in the event viewer then:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'


You should also check the device manager:
Right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device manager.
Once a gain you are looking for any yellow question marks or red "X"s

Do you have a device that syncs with your windows media player?
If so I think that's where your problem my be, you may have to uninstall this device and then reinstall it.

Also do you have any Norton products installed?
