power problems

Question: What is wrong with your pc if you can't power it up.

You have checked all the wiring and everything is connected properly.

One day it just went down and I have tried everything in my limited knowledge and I can't fix it.

Before I take it to a pc repairman and get charged an arm and a leg I was wondering if anyone could suggest something

Is everything plugged into a surg supressor? Is the Monitor also in the same state or does it show some lites? Some surg suppressors have a reset switch if they get tripped. See if the surg suppressor is functioning or needs to be reset (some don't have a reset switch) Push on the power plug where it connects to the case, some fit real loose.

A real long shot, there are some desktop cases that have a reset button that is a small hole with a recessed reset button that you reset with say a ball point pen or paper clip.
The reset switch can get jamed against the case and not release leaving the system in an off state.

If everything is OK there, the power supply would be the next item to replace. If the machine is less than 5 years old, replacing the power supply is pretty straight forward.

4 screws, one plug on the motherboard and one plug to each of your support devices.
